The Wiki ADU design was competitively submitted to WikiHouse, a digitally-manufactured building system that allows non-professionals to build their own house and obtain digital fabrication files for decentralized manufacturing and self-assembly. This program could save as much as 50% in project costs compared to traditional building systems. Reflecting the philosophy of open source architecture, the growth of such projects will lead to cheaper and better ADUs for everyone. In this way, WikiADU represents the beginning of a healthy, housing development environment that can alleviate the housing shortage in California.
